The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design advances the understanding of craft by encouraging and supporting research, critical dialogue, and professional development in the United States.

The Center administers three national award programs: the Craft Research Fund Program for independent and graduate scholars, the Windgate Fellowship Award Program for emerging craft artists graduating from universities, and the Windgate Museum Internship Program for craft-focused curatorial internships within museums. Additionally, the Center convenes national meetings, curates exhibitions, programs lectures and workshops, and sponsors international residencies.

Each year, the Center awards ten undergraduate seniors each with $15,000 in the form of a Windgate Fellowship. Over 70 universities from across the United States are invited to each nominate two students with exemplary skill in craft for one of the largest awards offered nationally to emerging craft artists.

The Center provides grants up to $15,000 for research, writing, support documentation, and rights to use images or text in order to expand research about craft in the United States, support exhibitions, and advance scholarship in the field.  Other grants include Graduate Research Grants and Travel Grants.

2017 Materials-Based Research Grants

The Materials-Based Research Grant is a new, pilot grant from initiative from CCCD that will support the expanding definition of craft-based research and promote collaboration between the fields of Craft, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
