The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design advances the understanding of craft by encouraging and supporting research, scholarship, and professional development in the United States.
The Center administers three national award programs: the Craft Research Fund Program for independent and graduate scholars, the Windgate Fellowship Award Program for emerging craft artists graduating from universities, and the Windgate Museum Internship Program for craft-focused curatorial internships within museums. Additionally, the Center convenes national meetings, curates exhibitions, programs lectures and workshops, and sponsores international residencies.
The Center is a regional center of UNC Asheville and is located on the fifty-acre UNC Asheville Kellogg Campus in Hendersonville, North Carolina which features public art on the property's Rudnick Nature Trail.
The Center recently awarded ten graduating seniors each with $15,000 in the form of a Windgate Fellowship. Over 70 universities from across the United States were invited to each nominate two graduating seniors with exemplary skill in craft for one of the largest awards offered nationally to art students.

The Center provides grants up to $15,000 for research, writing, support documentation, images or rights to use images or text, as part of the research yet to be completed. Other grants include Graduate Research Grants and Travel Grants.
