Call for Participation: Object as Poet

    CCCD01_17_060_web

“All forms are language, and communication flows between all of them, non-verbal and verbal alike.”  -M.C. Richards

“I have been a spellbound traveler in the world of objects, having been magnetized into their orbit and mystified by their aura-the marvel of shapes and the materials of those shapes, how the shapes come together, the tensions, the colors, their uses present and past, their isolation, their embrace, their all-knowing presence, their space and vitality.” -Rose Slivka

Motivated by the writings of longtime Craft Horizons magazine editor Rose Slivka and artist/poet M.C. Richards, The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design (CCCD) presents a challenge for makers and writers: to create a new collaborative work inspired by The Good Making of Good Things: Craft Horizons Magazine, 1941-1979 in just 11 days.

This program will have three phases:

Phase One, April 15, 2-4 pm: convene makers and writers, introduce and tour exhibition, engage in a collaborative, playful workshop, and assign teams.

Phase Two: teams will have 11 days to refine, develop and materialize a final collaborative work.

Phase Three, April 28, 6:30–8pm: teams will present the final work during a public event at CCCD.

    How to Apply:

Applications are due by March 11, 2017 and will be reviewed by Anna Helgeson, Grants and Programs Coordinator, CCCD and Gary Hawkins, Associate Dean for Faculty, Warren Wilson College. Applicants will be notified by April 1, 2017. For questions and further information, please contact ahelgeson@craftcreativitydesign.org or 828-785-1357.
