Courtney Dodd

Artist Statement

I am interested in the psychological and emotional effects of shifting visual phenomena and am exploring this area through glass’s optical ability to duplicate, reflect, and obscure. Photography is also an area that I am experimenting within because, it is simply a reflection of the actual object. The solidity of reflection whether on glass, in photography, or on water is something that I have been questioning.

Courtney Dodd was a Core Fellow at Penland School of Crafts from 2006-2008. She then worked for Devin Burgess, a former resident at Penland. Dodd holds an MFA from VCU with an emphasis in glass. Recently, she completed an Artist in Residence in photography at Oregon College of Art and Craft in Portland, OR. She currently lives in Asheville, NC.
