Dean Allison



Born in 1976 in Chicago, Illinois. Dean Allison was introduced to glass in 1998 while attending Illinois State University. In 2000, he studied painting at the University of Wolverhampton England. Upon graduation from I.S.U. he followed glass from Chicago to North Carolina to work for a number of glass artists and attend a concentration at the Penland School of Crafts. He has worked as an artist, technician, and instructor at Chicago Hot glass and has worked on numerous commissions nationally and overseas. In 2010 he achieved a Masters of Art in Visual Arts, Glass from the Australian National University in Canberra. His work explores constructions of the figure in reference to portraiture and identity. Dean currently works as the Glass Studio Coordinator at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina.


Artspace Survey Launch: Counting Asheville Artists & Creatives for Affordable Housing Solutions

The Center for Craft and Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce the launch of a comprehensive community outreach campaign and survey to quantify affordable housing and space options for Asheville’s artists, makers, performers and creatives. The Arts Market Survey, with a tagline of “Keep Asheville Creative,” is the next step to addressing community need as part of a bigger project to develop live/work, mixed-use-model development for the creative sector in Asheville.
