PUBLIC ART

In November, 2003 a workshop, "Making the Leap from Studio to Public Art" was presented first at CCCD on Friday, November 14 and the following day in Charlotte. This workshop was sponsored by CCCD in collaboration with the Arts and Sciences Council of Charlotte-Mecklenburg County.

Creative Transportation Design
The National Endowment for the Arts Design Art Program awarded $10,000 in June 2004 to the Center for Craft, Creativity and Design for "Creative Transportation Design", to include a traveling exhibit and book with CD of over 200 images of public art transportation projects and public art policies and process examples. The project is a collaboration between CCCD and Jeffrey York, North Carolina Arts Council Public Art Director.

The exhibit began traveling in 2005.

Introduction to Public Art Course Outline
This college course designed as a survey course at the 300 college level, was developed in a collaboration guided by Jean Greer, Vice President and Public Art Director of the Arts and Sciences Council of Charlotte, North Carolina and Dian Magie, Executive Director of the Center for Craft, Creativity and Design, with: Jean McLaughlin, Executive Director, Penland School of Craft and past Public Art Director of the North Carolina Arts Council; David Edgar, Director, MA in Arts Administration, UNC Charlotte; Brenda Coates, Western North Carolina Art History faculty; and Dan Millspaugh, UNC Asheville sculpture faculty.
