| (12/30/07): Windgate Fellowship | | This award has allowed me to continue to make sculptural glass after graduating from Kent State University. After school I relocated to Providence, RI to work as a studio assistant and continue my exploration in glass. I have also been able to teach beginning and intermediate glass blowing classes at Diablo Glass Studio in Boston, MA. These opportunities have allowed me to gain great experience in my field. |
| (12/30/07): Workshop and tools | This grant has allowed me to take a lost wax bronze casting class at the Steel Yard. The workshop was a lot of fun and it has given me a lot of ideas for some new work. I have also been able to acquire some equipment that will allow me to make my work. I found a used sand blaster and a vertical belt sander that will help me cold work glass. I was also able to purchase some glass blowing pipes and tools to allow me to try new techniques. |
| (12/30/07): Rhode Island | Being able to work with glass all the time has allowed me to improve my skills sense leaving school. The grant has given me the gift of time and freedom to experiment with glass. This has allowed me to take my time to develop my work. Relocating to New England has given me the chance to travel to Boston and New York to check out museums and galleries. The extra money has also given me the chance to take off work and be a teachers assitatn at Ox-Bow School of crafts. |
| (12/30/07): The Society for Contemporary Craft | This is one of the pieces that the grant has allowed me to create. It was in the Transformations 6: Contemporary Works in Glass show at the Society for Contemporary Craft in Pittsburg, PA. The piece is blown glass that has been sand carved, polished, and acid etched. The work deals with mutations that are caused by environmental pressures. |
| (12/30/07): The Wayne Art Center | Black Host is another new piece that is being shown at the CraftForms 2007 Show at the Wayne Art Center in Wayne, PA. It is blown glass that has been sand carved and acid etched. It also has small blown glass pieces attached inside the form. The exhibition is on display until the end of January. |
| (12/30/07): The EnergyXChange | Most recently I have been awarded a residency at the EnergyXChange in Burnsville, NC. This combined with my grant will allow me to start my own business in glass. This opportunity will give me the chance to run a glass studio and continue to make my work. The residency will allow me to work on my own glass projects everyday instead of part time. The nominal costs will give me the chance to continue to experiment with the material and not worry about the cost of failures during the glass making process. |
| (12/30/07): Recent work | This is a piece that I recently finished at the EnergyXChange. It is blown glass that has been stenciled off and sand blasted to reveal layers of color in the glass. This piece will be on display at the 20"x20"x20" exhibition at the LSU School of Art in Baton Rouge, LA from March 16 - April 4. |
| (12/30/07): North Carolina | This grant has allowed me to continue my career in glass by giving me the freedom to move to North Carolina and except the residency at the EnergyXChange. This long term residency combined with the financial backing from the CCCD will a give me the opportunity to establish myself as a studio artist and the time to devote to the development of my work. Thank you to both of these organizations for giving me the opportunity to pursue my work in glass. |
