| (11/21/08): windgate | Quick re-cap since I graduated from The Ohio State University - My wife & I had a beautiful baby boy named Broden Milton Murphy on March 4th 2008 (he weighed 7lbs & was 20” long) |
| (11/21/08): windgate | I finally bought the kiln of my dreams….INTRODUCING THE NEW SKUTT GLASS KILN: Studio GM1414 – oh yes, it’s all mine! Along with some other great equipment: Horizontal Metal Scissor Bandsaw, Oxy-Setaline (which I was able to get for a great deal from my former employer John Fortin @ Fortin Ironworks – Thanks John!) A wood chop saw with stand and laser guide, a wood band saw……and probably the most important new investment that the Windgate Fellowship was able to provide and one that has already helped me tremendously – was the Nikon D200 Camera with the Nikor 18 – 200 VR Lens and the Tokina 18 – 24 Wide Angle Lens. Through out my years I’ve come to learn that there are a few key things that crucial to anyone who wants to be a successful artist. Making the top of that list is the fact that you better have not only good but great images of your work, because sometimes that’s all you’ve got to work with! Thank you Windgate!!!!!! |
| (11/21/08): windgate | I Curated a show at the Ohio Art League called Transduce by fellow artist Matt McCormick |
| (11/21/08): windgate | I had a solo show at the Knowlton School of Architecture |
| (11/21/08): windgate | The show consisted of over 20 works the largest of the installations being six - seven & a half foot glass columns each consisting of fifty five sheets of glass, each separated one inch a part with one inch cut segments of tree branches placed in between each sheet. In columns,1,3,5 - each cut segment of the tree was placed in it's natural order of its original form. Creating in the end what looks like a tree that has somehow found its way into the space of a large glass column. It visually became distorted at times as the optics of the glass made its presence obscure, challenging the viewer’s perception of what was really taking place. In columns, 2,4,6, the cut tree segments were placed between each sheet of glass that was completely going against it original form - making a visual rhythm that is not easily found in our environment, while it stood in the confines of the glass column exaggerating its former existence. |
