| (03/10/08): Artist for Exhibition | Another artist who is participating this show "The SEAT" is Isaac Arms, who makes beautiful chair and bench using digital design technique and metal fabricating technique together. basically he designed his piece on software Rhino Ceros and cut by laser cutter and fabricated them together with welder and grinder. very simple but has strong impact of view. recently he was in ACC Baltimore. |
| (03/10/08): Artist for Exhibition | the last artist who is in this show Peter Galbert who is lived in New York and make most of winsor type based rocker. all of his work is 100% hand crafted and beautifully fabricated. i believe he is the one who is best example to show to korean audience about traditional hand craft work. this specific piece is his most recent work and carved bamboo shape cherry rocker. it will show maximum beauty of shaping of wood to korean audience.

| (03/10/08): shipped | | last wednesday was deadline to all artists and to me as well to deliver domestic movement to warehouse of shipper. it is been very stressful and hard to control everything make it on time and make sure everything was ok. since gail and isaac sent their pieces to SDSU i loaded their pieces in truck i rented drove up to LA. i was liitle bit worried because i couldn;t sleep before i drive 16 footage truck and luckly m friend chris was willing to help me to drive truck for me.i was very appreciate that, and we finally get to warehouse and check we have everyworks and patforms that we were going to use for show and shelves as well. that was a lot of work. before that Sarah, brad, jenn and jordan were made shelves and platforms for the show. that was very awesome and blasting to me for able to get their participation. well, we moved everything to warehouse and now i believe all of works are in the ocean from today to go to korea!!!! yeah~~~ |
| (02/29/08): Artist for Exhibition | I'm very lucky person to have chance to meet with Sarah martin in my first semester of SDSU.she is another artist who is participating show the SEAT in korea, also my first semester in SDSU she was been my bench neighbor at the same time she was been my best english teacher so far. i really enjoyed her warm mind with a bunch of sarcasm, and i believe those are effect on her development to produce her work as well. most of her recent work is related with japanes kimono fabric interlocked with her own box shape of furniture. she is going to present her most recent work in this show which is chest box shape bench very simple box shape include really nice detail. it is good example of how asian culture is bounce back to western and effect on that culture. she is also preparing for her next step which is penland residency i believe she is going to be a rockstar in there as well. |
| (02/29/08): hot stuff | another proress is going on.
since last weekend almost a week i haven;t done any of my own work because this week was most important week for make prgress of show The SEAT. i was controlling everybody's shippment and figure out troubles and adjust for final movement. i bought flight ticket for myself, Gail Fredell, Wendy Maruyama, and Thomas Hucker. and business card is on their way to print out, magazine ad page is finished as well. press release has been big pain in my ass but luckly Jenn and my friend Eugene( who is working for Yomiuri simbun in Manhattan ) helped me for made them. graphic designer and i had meeting about two or three times per day at least once per day, for final adjust. portfolio book translating is another stuuf to need to be figured, translating took little longer than i thought. hooooooo~~
but i'm glad everything starts find their shape.
only my complain is i want to have some time for fabricating my work!!! |
| (02/27/08): Artist for Exhibition | Brad johns i sanother artist who is participating The SEAT.
He recently Finish his MFA Thesis show in SDSU call "Proxy".
all of his work is really comical and based on certain function with philosophical base. since i know personally he is smartest person i ever met and so greatful knowledgy base artist for both area art and philosophy. i really like his approach develope heavy thought to comical asthetic. this piece he built is stool and very beautifully combained between two different type of wood. took a advantage of linear shape and round shape of it. also he had been a great resources and helper to me, i really appreciate that, cheers brad!!! |
| (02/27/08): Artist for Exhibition | such a great metal fabricator Vivian Beer is another artist show her piece in The SEAT. she is always been one of my hero as an maker. her work is just beuty and pull over maximum advantage of metal fabricating technique to her organic chair shape. she is going to present two pieces in this show, Spine and Lounge. both of them have very strong impact view for whole theme of this show. |
| (02/27/08): Oh my god | This thing coming i realize this show is coming!!!!
it is just so exiciting feeling to have. of course i'm super duper tired phisically but mentally i'm so happy. work is gathering together in my shipper's ware house by next wednesday. i'm driving up there maybe a couple times for checking and deliver pieces i have in san diego. it is going to be ocean from 10th. please god of sea maybe spell posadon is going to bless us. i bought all flight tickets and graphic designer will finish magazine ad page today and catalogue as well. oh my god i just cannot believe!!!!
i'm so excited about this!!!! |
| (02/26/08): Artist for Exhibition | Todd Partridge is another artist who is participating "The SEAT". He is in kentucky now as an resident artist, and his work is just beautiful. our first plan was present his sec benchbut while he deliver to san diego there was bit of trouble so we immediately change our plan to do something else. pass through a couple of design meeting he built this chair right away, that was totally awesome and he is been very helpful for this whole process. his Feisty chair is very minimal and really simple but very powerful looking. |
| (02/26/08): Artist for Exhibition | Since alphonse mattia was in SDSU furniture i had opportunities talk with him about show. and by that time i was looking for another artist who like to participating show. he recommend me Tanya Aguiniga who is stay in LA and develope her design and work. i contact to her and she response me right after, and i loved her work very much. she is going to present 2 of her work Teotitlan2 and alaska chair. i really enjoyed harmony between string and steel.very beautifully interact each other. |
| (02/26/08): Artist for Exhibition | we are not going to talk about studio furniture without her. Here comes Wendy Maruyama, Who is professor of SDSU furniture and full time artist. she is going to present her Mickey- Macitosh chair which is inspired from Mickey mouse and Charles Rennie Macintosh. chair has fabricated with beautifully and comically. she is also going to present about studio furniture in Kyungwon university and participating in opening for show as well. |
| (02/23/08): Artist for Exhibition | Another artist i like to introduce is Thomas Hucker who lives in east coast area in U.S. He is just amazing furniture maker and designer. i really like pretty much every single of his work. his piece i picked up for show " The SEAT" is Frame back Chair that shows most beautiful linear structure. he actually made new piece for this show. also he is the one who will visit korea and have lecture about relationship between design and studio furniture. |
| (02/20/08): Artist for Exhibition | Third artist is Jenn Anderson, who is participating show "The SEAT". i selected her because her chaise lounge is made by felt, which she made her own material for this chair. i thought this piece has great sensibilities of harmony of materials. very beautiful shape fits really well with other pieces in this show. she is also being a such a great helper for me. thanks jenn. |
| (02/20/08): Artist for Exhibition | Here is Matthew Herbert, who is robotic furniture maker. i think his work is showing to audience about one specific way where studio furniture is going. he does a lot of work related with computer and electronics. the piece i picked has solar panel on top of stool and it charges and when people sit there and stand back up stool is shaking and rolling. he laser cut aircraft plywood so it is really really light as well. |
| (02/20/08): Artist for Exhibition | Dan Michalik is another artist who is having piece for show "The SEAT". His "Cortica" lounge is made out of cork which is very sustainable material. i think it is great example to show variety of material. also good chance to present benifits of cork and whole meaning of sustainability. even though he has really tight schedule, he was very participated for preparing show, i was very happy to have him in this show. |
| (02/20/08): good news | | finally, finally,
one university contact to me for having lecture with our artist involve show "The SEAT". which made me change my plans little bit more but i was very happy having this chance. Artists who are going to visit Korea Gail Fredell, Thomas Hucker, and Wendy Maruyama. Luckly, Gail was visiting San Diego for deliver piece and little vacation reason from last weekend to today actually, so we had a several meetings together with Wendy as well about subject of lecture. that was awesome time, and the other thing is Alphonse Matthia who is teaching in RISD actually came down to San Diego for little vacation reason as well. and i had discussion with him too, and he gave a lot of good ideas and support, made me very happy. Thanks Alphonse you are awesome.

| (02/04/08): Artist for Exhibition | Here is another artist who is participating in show "The SEAT".
His name is Jordan Gehman, who does work primarily with wood.
the reason i pick up his chair is interesting format about understand value of chair leg. looks like chair that missed legs which maybe nonfunctional but the chair grew up his own leg for balancing and trying to be back to functional. more attractive thing about it is that is a wheel, which never able to balancing by himself. |
| (01/31/08): Artist for Exhibition | So, now i introduce artists in exhibition in Korea named "The SEAT" First artist is Gail Fredell who does make master craft object with beautiful form. i select her "Rocker" because it has very minimalistic looking and her process reminds me "origami". i thought that is very good example to show cultural emerging between asia and western. |
| (11/26/07): Advertise process in Korea | Last week i was flying over to korea for advertising reasons of this exhibition i'm puting together. i sign in contract with this gallery called "Gallery HO". i was very surprised about renting price of it. They liked works and this whole ideas putting together, so they kind of gave me good deal on it, but still unbelievably expensive. Anyways i sign in contract for Apr.1st 2008 through Apr.13th 2008. Also i met some of other gallery people to advertising reason, and their response was pretty good. and i had presentation in every each meeting about works i picked up for show. And everyone was pretty surprised and loved works. That was really good reaction to have. Also, i randomly walked into furniture stores and met with store managers and some of place wanted see works, so i had presentation as well. They also very excited to see this show as well. I figured out a lot of things include time frames and works and advertising process through this business trip. Here is a image of gallery space. |
